Puppy FAQs
What is an English Cream Golden Retriever? English Cream Golden Retrievers (also called white goldens or European golden retrievers) are still golden retrievers. They still have the classic "Golden" temperament that makes them such a popular dog, known for being devoted, friendly and intelligent and they are registered with the AKC as "Golden Retrievers". But their European bloodlines give them their lighter coat, ranging in color from white to a very light golden. They also have a heavier build, broader head, and rounder eyes. There is also evidence that shows that European golden retrievers are healthier and live longer than their American counterparts. Both the Golden Retriever Club of America and the British Kennel Club did extensive studies into cancer rates of Golden Retrievers. The GRCA reported that cancer was the cause of death for 71.8% of golden retrievers while the British Kennel club reported cancer as the cause of death for only 38.8%. Furthermore, the median age for European Goldens is 12 years and 3 months, while the median age for American Goldens is 10 years 8 months. The beautiful light coat, sturdier build, and healthier lineage is what drew our family to adopting our first English Cream Golden Retriever and we are so glad we did.
